Finding Your Passion
After the last post, on self expression vs self improvement, Brian asked how much you need to understand and exploring your thoughts. I said that ideally there would be no time needed in understanding and exploration. Instead you woud have some focus for your passion and excitement beyond your sense of self.
And then Ruth joined the conversation saying that she has been lucky to have this passion, but what of others that haven’t. How could they find such a passion?
I find this kind of question quite difficult to answer because I’ve always had things out ahead of me that I’m drawn to find the answer to. I just naturally get excited about new ideas.
And for some time now I’ve realised that perhaps the biggest issue holding many people back from a fuller life is the need to have something to grip their attention.
But finding that thing is difficult.
As I write this the wind is howling and all the leaves are falling from the trees. And so the ground is covered with leaves. Something could easily get lost and be very difficult to find again amongst all those leaves. And for many this is how it seems that their passion gets lost in the everyday demands of life.
So I could write something, but it would be just some theoretical answer based on my own biases. I would need a little more information to see some patterns and to try to understand the dynamics.
So I thought we could use the power of the group to get some answers of how other people have found or live their passion.

Add in your comments below on what takes your attention beyond your day to day concerns and excites you.
Is it reaching out to those in pain?
Is it striving to create something?
To achieve something?
Understand something?
Even better tell us how you found something that you feel so passionately about.
Or maybe you have difficulty in finding your passion.
Whatever the case, tell us what your experiences in finding a consistent mission.
Then maybe this will spark other ideas off and we can identify the dynamics that will help people find their own passion.

Your passion…what you’re good at…what you love doing…maybe you can ask others since they are most times more knowledgable about ourselves than we are of us
also personality/ career quizes? not sure if the work…
but remember :
doing what you like is freedom
liking what you do–is happiness…
we could all use a little happiness..maybe our job isn’t really our passion, but our hobby might be…as long as we have that hobby to keep us happy and keep us going…we’re okay
My passion is the work I have been doing since 1991, which is working to help adult male survivors of sexual abuse/rape to overcome the traumas of the past and to move on from that past life
I love my work and love meeting so many people, in the same field of work and it takes me around the world, doing workshops, speeches and attending conferences
Although the work is quite traumatic, it pays dividends when I see men walk away, from the horrors of abuse
Wow that’s really cool! But I read somewhere in happiest jobs in america…that only about 18% of therapists say they are very happy…. I guess it’s not for everybody.
I am lucky enough to have a passion. My passion ever since i was little has been to help out the underdog, i have a passion for empathy. I am now working as a nurse in aged care. I finally, at 36 years old completed my studies and have achieved the first step in my life plan. I enjoy working with the elderly and ,listening to their stories, but i also feel empowered now. I feel like i can finally do something to help these people who get such a raw deal in society. I love to be able to advocate for these residents, to make their final days happy ones. To get them the care that they need and the care that they are entitled to.
Just a quote i happened to stumble on a few minutes ago
“To discover in ourselves what makes life worth living is risky business, for it means that once we know we must seek it. It also means that without it life will be valueless.”
really good quote
