Meet Rob McPhillips
This means that he constantly researches and analyses life to identify, understand and then help others to know how to live more fully, meaningfully and enjoyably. Those words are vague and open to misinterpretation, but what he means by them is to live life in the way people such as Jesus, Buddha and Lao Tsu did. Without ego, but with complete faith, certainty, purpose and meaning. Then he uses this knowledge, as a Mechanic would use his knowledge of machinery, to identify a blockage or problem that is stopping a person from being as happy as he or she could be and engineer a solution. Personality Rob believes there is an intelligence behind the design of life. That we are put into certain contexts with certain personalities and instincts. Here are the instincts that Rob believes enable him to engineer happiness. He is intensely curious and never settles until he believes he is at the absolute root cause. It often drives people around him mad. At one job he was known as 'Why' for continually questioning every assumption. But it means that he develops a continually deeper layer of knowledge Rob is very detached emotionally and introverted. He's perfectly capable of mixing in social occasions, but it holds little interest to him. He prefers to observe others than to be the centre of attention. This way he has more data to develop his understanding of life. Being more detached emotionally allows him to see patterns and dynamics, more clearly with less bias and so develop insights into cause and effect.
Here's a link to the results of a Kolbe A - Instinctive Strengths test, Rob took.
Rob's Journey To Live Without Conflict Rob first got into the business of helping people to live with less stress in 1993 after opening a small Health Club. Simply Fit opened with the intention of helping people to lose weight in a welcoming atmosphere. To provide a more comprehensive service he qualified as a Nutritionist and began providing diet plans as well as exercise routines. However he soon found that people didn't stick to these and so started looking for the solution to this problem. After training in Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) and Counselling he began helping people to increase their motivation to exercise and diet. Once people opened up to talk, though they wanted to move the focus to the stress they felt and the bigger issues in life. However he became discouraged with this after a while for two reasons. 1. Rather than become more independent as Rob had envisaged, it seemed Clients would believe they could pass responsibility for every little problem they faced. 2. Rob sensed people needed a deeper philosophical framework, rather than just solving problems as they surfaced. Aside from these factors, business was suffering. People often go to a Health Club because they want to make a change. Maybe, it's after a divorce or thinking about leaving a relationship. So when the stressful situation is resolved, they lose motivation for exercising. Focusing on stress and resolving it more quickly than usual was disadvantageous for the business because people stayed members for less time and so paid less. After months examining the options Rob decided he couldn't in good conscience stay in the Health Club business. He didn't believe in it any more and walked away from the business. He spent the next five years searching for that deeper philosophical framework of meaning. This included working as a volunteer with The Samaritans a charity, traditionally thought of as a helpline for suicidal people. Another part of this search was to gain a degree in Behavioural Studies, a mix of mostly Psychology with some Sociology. His thesis was focused on the impact of cognitive personality traits on happiness. Studying the existing literature gave him an understanding of what it takes to become happy and after graduating he developed a websitewww.coachingtohappiness.com and wrote a book, The 32 Building Blocks of Happiness. Since then he has reworked and refined his philosophy and understanding to a deeper level which will be revealed in the release of Happiness 2.0. Rob is an information gatherer. He loves to store information, break it down and piece it together in different ways. He enjoys sharing his discoveries with friends.
